The Reader Registration Block allows readers to sign up for your Newspack site as part of our Audience Development feature. It’s used in Newspack by the Reader Activation campaign, and when content gating is enabled as part of one of the content gates.

Using the Reader Registration Block

  1. Edit the post or page where you would like to add the block.
  2. Open the Gutenberg block selector and search for ‘Reader Registration’, or scroll down to the Newspack section of the dropdown and pick Reader Registration.

The Reader Registration block includes the following options in the right sidebar in the block editor.

Styles

The Reader Registration block lets you toggle between two different layouts: Stacked (with the Newsletter Subscriptions and Sign In/Sign Up form on top of one another), or Columns (with the Sign In/Sign Up form and Newsletter Subscriptions list appearing side-by-side.

Form Settings

Under Form settings, you can updated the placeholder text displayed in the Email Address field. By default it will be ‘Email Address’.

Newsletter Subscriptions

The Reader Registration block allows readers to sign up for your newsletter(s) during the registration process.

Enable newsletter subscription – when this is toggled on, readers can sign up for your newsletter(s) as part of the registration process, with no extra steps.

Display list description – an option to display the description that’s set for each newsletter list.

Hide newsletter selection and always subscribe – lets you decide whether or not to show the newsletter sign up option in the Reader Registration form, or have readers signed up automatically. This option is not available when you’ve selected more than one list.

Lists – lets you pick which newsletter lists are available for readers to sign up for. When more than one list is selected, each will appear with a checkbox in the Reader Registration block. Selecting the checkbox for a corresponding list in the editor, will cause that newsletter option to be pre-selected when the reader is presented with the Reader Registration block.

States

The Reader Registration block has different states that you can toggle between to edit:

Initial – The initial state presented to readers, with a sign in/sign up form and optional newsletter sign up. In this state, you can add a title and description to the block.

Registration Success – The message presented to readers who have successfully signed up for your site. In this state, you can edit the message, including adding other blocks.

Login Success – The message presented to readers who have successfully logged in. In this state, you can edit the message, including adding other blocks.
