The Fundraise Up integration connects your Newspack site with Fundraise Up so that donations made through Fundraise Up are tied to a reader account on your site. Donors get a single place to manage everything: they sign in on your website, and from there they can view and manage their giving in Fundraise Up.
This integration is part of Audience Management. When a donor gives, they are registered as a reader on your site, which lets you segment them as an audience alongside the rest of your reader data.
Note: The Fundraise Up integration is inbound-only. It captures donations and donor registrations and surfaces donation information in the reader’s account, but it does not push reader/contact data back out to Fundraise Up.
Before you start
You will need:
- A Fundraise Up account.
- Your Fundraise Up API key — from your Fundraise Up dashboard.
- Your Fundraise Up Installation Code — found in the Fundraise Up Dashboard under Settings → Installation.
- Audience Management enabled on your Newspack site.
Setting up the integration
The integration is configured under Newspack → Audience → Integrations → Fundraise Up in your WordPress admin.

The following settings are available:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| API Key | A secret token from your Fundraise Up dashboard. The integration uses it to look up donations and donors from Fundraise Up. Without it, the My Account donations page and smart thank-you pages will not work. |
| Installation Code | The snippet copied from Fundraise Up Dashboard → Settings → Installation. Paste it here and the integration loads Fundraise Up on every page of your site, so donate buttons and modals work. |
| Run in Test Mode | When enabled, donations are processed through Fundraise Up’s test environment. Turn this off when you are ready to take real donations. |
| Smart thank you pages | Lets donors who finish a donation on a Fundraise Up campaign page return to your site already signed in. See Smart thank-you pages below. On by default. |
After entering your details, save the settings. Remember to turn off Run in Test Mode when you are ready to accept real donations.
How donations are captured
Donation modals
This is the flow for donations made through a checkout modal that opens on top of your site — for example, when a reader clicks a Fundraise Up Checkout Button block or any donate element you have configured in the Fundraise Up dashboard to appear on your pages.
What the donor experiences:
- If they were already signed in before donating, they stay signed in and the new donation is added to their account.
- If a signed-in donor’s email and name are already known, those fields are pre-filled in the checkout modal so they do not have to type them again.
Smart thank-you pages
This flow covers donations made on Fundraise Up’s hosted campaign pages, where the donor is not on your site during checkout. With smart thank-you pages enabled, a donor who finishes there and is redirected back to your site is automatically signed in (or has a reader account created) using the donation details.
Setting it up
- Make sure Smart thank you pages is enabled in the integration settings (it is on by default).
- In Fundraise Up, go to Campaigns → [Your Campaign] → Campaign Page → Thank you screen.
- Choose Redirect supporters to a specific URL and set the redirect to a page on your site.
What the donor sees
When the donor lands back on your site after donating, they are signed in to their reader account automatically.
For privacy and security:
- If a different person is already signed in on that browser, nothing changes — the integration will not sign anyone out.
- Donation links expire after a day, so a forwarded URL cannot be used later to sign someone else in.
Fundraise Up Checkout Button block
A Gutenberg block called Fundraise Up Checkout Button lets you place a donate button anywhere in your post or page content.
Setting up the block
When you insert the block, you will first be asked for a Campaign ID — the identifier of the Fundraise Up campaign or element the button should open. Once that is set, you can customize the block from the block sidebar.

The block sidebar has two panels:
- Campaign — the campaign or element the button opens.
- Donation Settings — donation-specific options for the button.
The button’s label, color, font, spacing, and border radius are edited like any other Newspack/WordPress button.
What the donor sees
When clicked, the button opens the Fundraise Up checkout modal pre-loaded with the chosen campaign and any prefill values. From there, the donor experience matches the donation modal flow.
The reader experience: the Donations page
Once a reader has at least one Fundraise Up donation tied to their account, a Donations menu item appears in their My Account area.

The Donations page can show:
- Recent donation — date, amount, and status of the most recent donation.
- Recurring plan — amount, frequency, status, next payment date, and payment method for an active recurring plan.
- Manage your donations — a button that opens the Fundraise Up donor portal (see below).
The information shown here always reflects the latest state in Fundraise Up. If the donor cancels a recurring plan or updates a payment method in the donor portal, their next visit to this page will show the change.
If no donation information is available, the page shows a short “No donation information found.” message.
Donor portal magic link
The Manage your donations button opens the Fundraise Up donor portal — a hosted page where the donor can see their full donation history, update payment information, change a recurring plan’s amount, or cancel.
The link is created fresh every time the Donations page loads, so the donor does not need a separate Fundraise Up password — being signed in to your site is enough to get them in.
Note: The donor portal link does not work for supporters created in Test Mode.
