Why is the information architecture changing?

The reorganization of Newspack’s information architecture (the layout and structure of Newspack tools within the WordPress admin area) is aimed at improving navigation and ensuring that your most-used tools are easy to find. By streamlining how features are grouped and accessed, we hope to make your workflow smoother and more intuitive.

When are these changes going into effect?

The new information architecture will roll out on Monday, March 31st.

What exactly is changing?

Here’s a breakdown of the changes:

  • Dashboard: A new layout with sections and cards for quick access to tasks like creating posts, drafting newsletters, and more.
  • Settings: All settings are now grouped under one menu, including Connections, Emails, Social, SEO, and more.
  • Audience Management: Reader Activation, Donations, and Subscriptions are now clearly separated into their own sections under Audience -> Configuration, Audience -> Donations, and Audience -> Subscriptions.
    • As part of this update, we have renamed Reader Activation (aka “RAS”) to Audience Management.
  • Menu structure: Key sections like Newsletters, Listings, and Network have been reorganized to be more intuitive.

How will this affect my existing setup?

The reorganization will not affect your current data or settings. However, you may notice that some tools have been relocated or renamed in the menu. We’ve included a “cheat sheet” below to help you map old menu locations to the new ones.

Do I need to do anything on my end to adjust to the new structure?

In most cases, no action is needed. Your settings, data, and integrations have been migrated to the new structure automatically. However, we recommend reviewing the updated menu to familiarize yourself with where everything is now located.

Will there be any downtime during this update?

No downtime is expected. The changes are applied seamlessly, and you should be able to continue using the Newspack interface without interruptions.

Will there be a guide to help me navigate the changes?

Yes! We’ve updated all of the help site documentation and created a cheat sheet that maps old menu items to their new locations.

What if I encounter issues with the new IA?
