Group subscriptions let one account holder — an employer, household owner, or organization — purchase a subscription that covers multiple readers. Each group member gets full access to gated content without needing their own subscription. The group owner manages membership from their account.
Group subscriptions require WooCommerce Subscriptions and Access Control. The group subscription feature must be enabled on a specific subscription product before it is available.
Setting up a group subscription product
- Go to WooCommerce → Products and open the subscription product you want to offer as a group subscription.
- In the product settings, find the Group subscription section.
- Enable Group subscription.
- Set the Group subscription member limit (including owner) — the total number of people the subscription covers, the owner included. A limit of 10 means the owner plus 9 invitees. The minimum is 2; set it to 0 for unlimited.
- Optionally set a Group subscription name (displayed to members and in admin).
- Save the product.
Customizing group terminology
By default, the reader-facing interface uses the word “group.” You can relabel this to match your publication — for example, “team,” “membership,” or another term.
Go to Audience → Configuration → Advanced settings and update the singular and plural labels. The URL path stays at /group/, but all visible labels, buttons, and notices will use your configured terminology.
Managing group members (owner experience)
Group owners manage their group from My Account → Group. From there, owners can:
- Invite by email — enter a member email address; the invitee receives an invitation email with an acceptance link.
- Share an invite link — copy a reusable link to share directly.
- Resend or cancel a pending invite — manage invitations that haven’t been accepted yet.
- Remove a member — removed members immediately lose access.
Owners who have multiple group subscriptions see a group picker showing one card per subscription.
Member experience
Group members can view their subscription from My Account → Subscriptions. The group owner name is shown, but the owner email address is not exposed. Members can leave a group from their subscription page using the Leave group option.
For members who have no orders or saved payment methods of their own, the Orders and Payment information sections are hidden in My Account to reduce confusion.
Exporting group subscription data
You can export group subscription data as a CSV from the WordPress admin. Go to WooCommerce → Subscriptions, filter the list to the subscriptions you want, and click Export CSV above the list. The file covers the filtered view as it stands at that moment, so filter first; the list’s sort order is not carried into the file.
The export includes data for bulk group subscriptions — useful for reporting, auditing access, or syncing records with an external CRM.
