The Campaigns feature lets you build persuasive calls to action, using all available blocks, and display it as an overlay, inline with the story, or above the site header.
Calls to action for the same purpose can be grouped under a single Campaign, such as year-end fundraising, so they can be all turned on or off at once.
You can create several kinds of prompts:
An overlay prompt (commonly known as a “pop-up”) can be limited to specific categories or tags, or run sitewide, and it can appear at the top, bottom or in the middle of a page. It can be triggered either by time on the page, or percentage-based depth of scroll.
An inline prompt can also be limited by category or tag, or run on every article page. Ad placement is determined by block count or approximate percentage of the article’s content.
If in the ‘above header’ position, it will appear above the site header on every page until the prompt’s frequency conditions are met (read more about frequency settings) or the reader no longer matches its assigned segments (read more about segmentation).
Another setting allows you to exclude readers who arrived by clicking a link in an email newsletter, so you’re not asking in the prompt for a newsletter sign-up when they’ve just arrived at the site from your newsletter. We do this through the use of a utm_suppression value.
You can also target prompts to readers in real time as they interact with your site based on a variety of factors, such as whether they subscribe to a newsletter, whether they’ve donated, and how many stories they’ve read. (Read more about segmentation.)
Getting started
If you haven’t already, install the Newspack Campaigns plugin by navigating to Newspack > Dashboard > Campaigns, and installing and activating the plugin.

Once you activate Campaigns, you’ll see it under Audience in your toolbar.

Default campaign
If you’re using our Audience Management system, you can set up Newspack Campaigns with a default campaign that consists of several prompts and audience segments, which can help improve audience engagement and conversions. You can activate that by changing the dropdown from “Active Prompts” to “Reader Activation Defaults.”
Read much more about the Audience Management system at this help page.
