Tag Labels let you turn selected post tags into bold, prominent labels that appear near the headline wherever posts are displayed — for example, a “Breaking News” or “Developing” flag. You choose which tags become labels, optionally customize the label text, and pick the site-wide label color.
Creating a tag label
- Go to Posts → Tags in your WordPress admin.
- Add a new tag or click an existing one to edit it.
- Check Display as label. A Label text field appears.
- (Optional) Enter shorter, punchier wording in Label text — for example, type Breaking instead of the full tag name Breaking News. Leave it blank to use the full tag name.
- Save the tag.
Where labels appear
Labels appear near the headline on any post that has the tag, wherever posts are displayed across your site. Two blocks have an explicit toggle to control label visibility:
- Homepage Posts (Content Loop) block — a Show tag labels toggle in the block settings controls whether labels appear in that block (on by default).
- Carousel block — the same Show tag labels toggle is available.
Labels appear after any category or sponsorship labels already on the post.
Choosing a label color
Go to Appearance → Customize → Tag Labels and set a background color for all labels. The text color is automatically adjusted for contrast against the background you choose.
